Consider this Grapefruit Diet Information very well before you decide to go on it. Take

note of all the details of this plan and how close it actually is to a low carb high protein diet.

Grapefruit Diet Information

The Grape Food diet is without a doubt a fad diet.  It is a diet based on grapefruit consumption for weight loss and it should not be considered as a long term diet plan.

The diet plan is designed to last for twelve days at a time. This is the first give away, if a diet cannot be followed for long periods, or even permanently, you know it is a fad.

The grapefruit diet has been around for a while and it can even be dated back to the early Hollywood days.  It is true that the diet has changed a bit over the decades, but it can still be considered a fad diet.

1. Only a good idea if you are desperate!

Even if you are desperately saying: "how can I lose fat?" I'm not sure it is a good idea!

The idea of the grapefruit diet is to lose weight fast.  If you desperately need to lose weight for that special occasion that lasts one night only, this diet is right up there with the Cabbage Soup diet This is the second give away; no real weight loss can be achieved in a short while. Permanent weight loss needs time, hard work and commitment. You can ask me, I've been right there!

2. Grapefruit has a low glycemic index

It is said that grapefruit affects the body’s metabolism and it can actually help to speed up the metabolism.  This in turn translates into more calories burned.  Grapefruits are a low glycemic index food.  This means that it stabilizes the blood sugar which helps to control the appetite.

This is true enough, but where have I heard that before? There are many and far better diets where this piece of knowledge is used in a much healthier way!

3. Some more Grapefruit Diet Information: It can only be followed for twelve days

The grapefruit diet can be followed for twelve days and then you have to take a two week break before you go onto it again.  This is only a quick fix trend diet and performing it regularly is not healthy or wise.  A quick drop in weight for an event is one thing, but becoming a regular grapefruit dieter is not good. Here comes the yo-yo dieting danger again! Use it if you must, but follow up with a healthy weight loss plan.

4. Grapefruit Diet Information - the basic meal plan

On this diet you eat grapefruit with every meal.  There aren’t a lot of carbohydrates with this plan.  You have eggs and bacon for breakfast but no toast and, of course, the grapefruit.

In all the meals grapefruit replaces the starch.  As in any low carb diet, certain vegetables can be eaten because they have a low carbohydrate count and are low in calories.  Vegetables such as corn, lima beans, potatoes, and sweet potatoes are vegetables that have higher carbohydrate and they are not allowed. You have to replace these vegetables with green leafy vegetables.  Salads and lean meat can be added for lunch and dinner.

Does this not look very familiar to you? Yes, your standard Low Crabs Diet!

6. This is a very low calorie diet not recommended!

Grapefruit Diet Information

Very few calories are consumed on this diet.  When your calorie consumption falls below 1,000, the body cannot work properly any more.  You are now consuming too few calories for basic cellular function.  Remember that if the body perceives that it is in starvation mode, it will hold on to those fat stores and extra weight will be that much harder to get rid of. This is the biggest problem with all fad diets. Once again, here comes the yo-yo dieting!

Twelve days are definitely too long for this diet plan.  Without enough calories, it becomes hard to concentrate.  Tiredness and dizziness can also become a problem.  The bottom line, it is dangerous to make this kind of drastic change to the body for a long time.

Have a look at one of the warnings for this diet:

"Exercise during the diet is not recommended due to the severe restriction of calories. Exercise should only be performed when energy levels are high, and this diet does not provide enough calories for an exercise to be on." What can be more fad diet?

The grapefruit diet is not a diet to be considered in any but the greatest possible emergency. No long term good can come of it. Lots of long term "bads" can come from it though in the form of bad health. I hope with the Grapefruit Diet Information given here, you will consider a healthier option and stay away from this dangerous diet.
