The Duke Rice Diet

Do not be mislead by the name "Duke Rice Diet" even though the

name makes it sound like another fad diet.

Duke Rice Diet

This diet plan is anything but a fad diet. The Duke Rice Diet is a weight loss program that is run from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. This is a plan that has been proven successful by many participants.

If you have the money, this is probably a very good idea if you a really serious when you are saying: "how can I lose fat?"

1. Medically supervised:

The diet is a medically supervised plan and is not a fad diet. The diet can be followed for as little as two weeks depending on the amount of weight the participant needs to lose. This is a live in program and you have to stay in the facility for the whole length of time.

The Duke Rice Diet was developed almost eighty years ago by a doctor doing research on whether certain diseases could be affected by what we eat. He was hoping to prove that by changing your diet you will be able to reverse the progression of conditions such as diabetes.

2. Rice as the staple:

Naturally, the diet places emphasis on rice as the main staple of the plan. Observations showed that people, who ate a diet where rice was consumed on a regular basis, had fewer instances of hypertension, stroke, or diabetes. This has been observed in Asian countries where rice is eaten at almost every meal.

3. Lots of fruit and veggies:

On this diet participants eat plenty of fruit, vegetables, fish and rice. The food choices are quite specific and that is the reason for the quick loss of weight. Portion size is regulated to teach patients what a normal size is for a serving. Portion sizes have gotten so out of control lately that everyone needs to be retrained as to what a portion really is.

4. Low on salt:

The use of fat and salt is very low. Salt, especially, is not recommended for patients with high blood pressure. This can be a problem for salt lovers.  We all know that using a lot of salt leads to fluid retention and bloating. Patients are taught how to season their food with spices and not with salt. Fat is kept low so that the body will use its own stores as fuel.

5. Classes to teach proper eating habits:

Patients can attend classes that teach them about food and how to eat properly for optimal health. Support is available for those who need it during their stay. Participants are also taught how to manage after the program is over. The program is supervised and the health of the participants is watched for any major problems.

6. Unfortunately it is costly:

The Duke Rice Diet is a costly program. Staying in this program for any length of time will require a lot of money.  So this is unfortunately not an option for most of us. If you have the money though, this is a really good program where you can lose weight safely and under constant supervision.

7. Support Afterwards:

Participants do have access to support once they finish the program. This support ensures that they continue their weight loss or weight maintenance at home. This program is available online and you can check it out before deciding if it is for you. If it is possible for you, the Duke Rice Diet is a very good option.
